BURCHFIELD PENNY ART CENTER

Walter S. Johnson Bldg. Co., Inc. was involved in the construction of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center located at 1300 Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo, NY. This 84,000 square foot gallery is one of the largest regional art museums in the country and includes exhibition galleries, art storage and support space, classrooms, a lecture hall, offices, a café, reception area and a retail shop. It is expected to be the first art center in New York State certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), slated for silver certification. WSJ held a $2.3M General Trades contract which included a wide array of activities including temporary facilities and controls, ornamental metal railings and stairs, rough and finish carpentry, and various specialty items, furnishings and equipment. The Art Center celebrated its grand opening celebration on November 22, 2008.
